This policy covers printing in all computer labs and corporate offices managed by International Medical University - ITS and our print outsource partner RICOH.

Student Printing Policy

International Medical University (IMU) maintains a print quota system on its printers. Graduate, Undergraduate and Post-Graduate students are allowed a print quota of 100 pages each semester (each page printed in color is equivalent to 4 pages in black and white).  Page balances do not carry over the following semester therefore the print quota will reset to zero at the start of each quota period.

IMU Student Laser Printing Quotas

All currently enrolled IMU students receive a free printing quota for use in designated IMU computer labs. This quota may be used for standard (A4 Black and white) laser printing. If students use up their free quota, they will be charged for any additional black and white laser printing ar the rate of 8.5 cents per page (print per page pricing are subject to change and review by the manageement), payable through our cashier counters. There is a charge for all color printing and non-standard sized black and white printing. The quota applies to printing only; quota cannot be used on photocopy machines.

Quota Cycles

Students receive quotas for two six month time periods each year:

Quota Period

Quota Cycle 1 - January 1 through June 30
Quota Cycle 2 - July 1 through December 31

Quotas are made available once a student enrolls in courses during the cycle. The balance remains at zero until a student enrolls in courses for the current semester.

The free quota is provided to currently enrolled students. There is no quota available for faculty, staff, or alumni, unless they are currently enrolled in a class and have paid their school fees. There is no quota for students who are not currently enrolled in classes.

At the end of the Quota Period, any remaining quota is deleted. The quota has no cash value; there are no refunds or transfers for unused quotas. Deletion of the remaining quotas begins at noon on the deletion date (June 30 and December 31). At the beginning of the next Quota Period, a fresh quota of free pages will be reinstated as soon as a student enrolls in classes. Replenishment occurs on or before noon of the start date (January 1 and July 1).

Quota Amounts

Students receive quotas based on the their enrollment:

Printing quota - 100 pages (A4 Black and white laser printing)

  • A "page" consists of a single sheet of paper, regardless of whether you have printed on one side.
  • If a student drops a class, the quota will be automatically deleted.
  • Quotas are subject to change.
There is no cash value to the printing quota. At the end of the Quota Cycle, any remaining free quota is deleted; there are no refunds or transfers for unused quotas.

How can I reduce my printing?

Before printing…

  • Use web browser bookmarks to save material you are interested in.
  • Mail yourself the URLs of web sites you are interested in to maintain a record.
  • Printing of course materials can use a lot of paper. Check to see if course packs are available for your course.
  • Use the Print Preview feature of applications to verify output layout of documents which you may be frequently updating and only make a printout when you are satisfied with the final result.
  • Print multiple pages on one sheet. If you need to print PowerPoint slides, consider printing them 3 or 6 slides to a page, black and white only with no backgrounds. This will speed up the printing process and save your printing quota.
  • use spell check and print preview on screen to proofread your documents for errors before you print.
  • use the revision and 'track changes' features in word processing software to edit draft documents on screen. If you’re team editing a document, use the ‘Comment & Markup’ tool in Adobe Acrobat PDF. This allows multiple people to input their comments into a document  - these comments can then be grouped and assembled into a single document with all comments on show. This is an invaluable tool when an SME is writing or reviewing corporate documents.
When printing is unavoidable…
  • set computer defaults to print double-sided and, where possible, two up (printing two pages on one sheet of paper)
  • print only the page range and only the number of copies needed
  • print more words per page by changing the default to reduce margins, and using a space-efficient font like Times New Roman.
After printing…
  • reuse single-sided sheets for notes, draft printing and incoming faxes
  • recycle - put a recycling bin next to all of your printers, copiers and fax machines.

Recycle…

  • recycle all of your office paper.
  • if your office doesn’t recycle yet, start a recycling paper program - it will reduce your office waste levels and minimise waste to landfill.

Reuse…

  • envelopes by placing labels over the old address
  • large boxes by flattening and storing till needed.
